What is OOPAC?OOPAC logo

The Ohio Osteopathic Political Action Committee (OOPAC) is a Corporate PAC operating as an affiliated political action committee of the Ohio Osteopathic Association.  OOPAC is organized under Sections 3517.01 and 3517.082 of the Ohio Revised Code.

OOPAC's purpose is to support candidates for Ohio statewide or state legislative offices who have demonstrated their beliefs in and the principles to which osteopathic medicine is dedicated.  OOPAC's primary goal is to help shape health care policy by educating legislators about health care issues and explaining how proposed legislation will affect our patients and the communities we serve. We accomplish our goals as a volunteer, nonpartisan group of osteopathic physicians who are interested in promoting good government and electing candidates who share our goals. A strong PAC helps to open doors and strengthen the osteopathic voice at the Ohio Statehouse.

How is the Committee Elected?

Committee members are osteopathic physicians elected by the Ohio Osteopathic Association’s Board of Trustees to serve three-year, staggered terms.  By law, OOA cannot contribute directly to political campaigns and the profession can only do so through an affiliated PAC. OOPAC is not aligned with any one political party. We support candidates on both sides of the aisle. Committee members include:

Paul A. Martin, DO, Secretary, Dayton
Andrew P. Eilerman, DO, Columbus
Jennifer L. Gwilym, DO, Athens
Sean D. Stiltner, DO, Piketon
John F. Ramey, DO, Sandusky

How Do I Contribute?

OOPAC's political activities are funded by the voluntary contributions of OOA members above and beyond their membership dues. Ohio law prohibits us from accepting corporate checks or credit cards. OOPAC contributions must be made by personal check or credit card. OOPAC contributions are NOT tax deductible.

What about Tax Credits?

PAC donations do not qualify for tax credits, but we need your direct OOPAC contributions to have a collective voice for osteopathic medicine in Columbus. Once you contribute to OOPAC, you can make personal contributions go even further. Ohioans who contribute directly to a candidate for state office can claim a credit on their state income tax return ($50 for individuals filing separately, or $100 on a joint return).

Thank You!

Each year OOPAC challenges physicians to make a contribution to further enhance efforts at the Ohio Statehouse. The friendly competition pits the ten OOA district academies against each other for fundraising bragging rights. The winning districts of the OOPAC Challenge are announced at the House of Delegates in April. Thank you to all who have contributed and met the challenge!
