Academy Memorial Fund Scholarship, Dayton

The fund was established in the 1980s to provide potential no-interest loans to 3rd and 4th year osteopathic medical students. As the federal government began offering larger student loan amounts the Dayton District Academy of Osteopathic Medicine repurposed the fund account for more philanthropic purposes. Medical professionals seeking monetary assistance to help offset costs for research papers, medical equipment, educational conferences, or medical mission trips could be eligible for full or partial funding.

For more information and an application form, contact Jennifer Horvath, executive director of Dayton District Academy.

Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP)

This loan forgiveness program is available to third year osteopathic students who are enrolled at OU-HCOM or LECOM, and are residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties in Ohio, as well as Lawrence and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania.  Applicants must agree to join the staff of one of the HMHP hospitals for at least five years after graduation from a residency program.  Applicants must also be graduates of high schools located in the above Ohio and Pennsylvania Counties.  The amount of the loan is $50,000 a year for two years, with 20 percent forgiveness per year. Payback with interest is required if terms of the loan are not upheld.  For more information, contact David Gemmel, PhD, Senior Director of Medical Education and Research at david_gemmel@mercy.com.
