Student Advocacy Involvement

Health Policy RotationOhio Statehouse Cupola

The OOA Health Policy Rotation is a 2–4 week elective offered during the spring semester for OU-HCOM fourth-year students and CORE residents. The rotation introduces participants to the state legislative process and the development of public health policy.

Students shadow the OOA Executive Director and state health officials to see government in action. Experiences include observing sessions of the Ohio General Assembly, attending health-related legislative committee hearings, meeting with legislators, and participating in state agency, coalition, and stakeholder meetings.

Through the rotation, students gain practical skills in analyzing existing and proposed legislation, researching health policy issues, drafting policy statements, communicating effectively with policymakers, and, when appropriate, presenting testimony before legislative committees.
